I came across this while doing a Google using
'ecomstation news'. Does anyone know more about
this 'succesor to OS/2'?

"Introduced in 2007, aerolitheOS will be our
successor PC operating system for OS/2 Warp and
thus a new alternative for users who have intentions
to change their current platform.

OS/2 users must decide whether they turn to
Windows or Linux or keep an OS/2 alike OS on
their systems. We have done software development
for our PC systems on OS/2 and for OS/2 for
several years now and will not drop our source
code tree. You can also keep your skills an save
your investments in OS/2 software. That is why
aerolitheOS is being developed. This site is a
preliminary web page that provides access to
information about aerolitheOS we can share with
you at the moment.

Your comments and suggestions are welcome and
you can also register with our test programme
to get alpha and/ or beta versions of aerolitheOS.
The first alpha version will be available in fall 2006.

Our operating system is a full 32-bit protected
mode OS that is binary and API compatible with
OS/2 Warp. The OS will be used on our Aérolithe
PC systems, even if its use is not restricted to
these machines. It is extreme compact and reliable
and ideally suited for embedded applications.
Additionally, it is designed to be highly adaptable
so that it fits the requirements of desktop and
network computing.

aerolitheOS combines the principles of the
object oriented user interface and programming
rules of OS/2 with a new and compact operating
system design dedicated to the x86 CPU family.
The binary compatability with OS/2 ensures the
usage of standard OS/2 applications in the long
term. aerolitheOS provides the interfaces of all
subsystems known on OS/2 based on its own object
orientied implementation. "

Would this affect OSFree?
Could OSFree use any of the above?

A Google search gave the following, which looks like their main page,

<http://www.cef-it.de/pages/en/cenew_software.htm>

although I have not had time to look thoroughly for information on the
organisation behind the OS. I do hope it is more than 2 guys in a
garage in Düsseldorf or an attic in Dresden.

Forget it. It is probably by and large vaporware.

This is from a guy, who has a very bad reputation in the german speaking
OS/2 community, because many people feel ripped off by him, because he
sold abonnements, payable in advance, for a magazine called "OS/2 only",
which disappeard after a few editions. There were even several lawsuits
against him....

This "project" exists for quite a few years now and was originally
called Xelia Witchcraft, then PAF Papillon Application Framework and now
aerolitheOS.

All that has shown up until now is a replacement for VIEW.EXE and a .zip
WPS class.
That guy isn't a bad coder, but he has no sense for reality, sorry to
say that.

In addition the whole thing will not run on eCS only on IBM OS/2.
Sometimes I thought somebody should bring him together with the
FUDsters, such as Tim Martin or Ed Letourneau.:-)

Sorry for not having better news.

There is a site, <os2only.com>, which gives a description of his
company, cef-IT. If anyone is interested it's
<http://www.os2only.de/pages/en/cenew_philosophie.htm>, and here is an
excerpt.
"cef-IT is a single enterprise with the individual responsibility of
Clemens-E. Fischer. Founded in 2001, cef-IT is really a small business
and this will not change."

ISTR some news / rumours about some clone of OS/2 based on REXX,
which was likely this fellow's PAF, based on SOM/DSOM & REXX. It is for
sale at 145.00 € (Euro) if you are an adventurous sort, ;-) . I did see
a reference to an "alpha CD", which may be all anyone gets for this fee.
Thanks very much for the warning about Herr Fischer, which I will
keep on file in case this subject arises again.

I have heard similar things from other sources.

This is spam. Will there be anything done about it?

PS It would be nice if they put 'ot' on the subject
line.

Hmm, I had thought that you were one of the moderators for this
group, but likely am confusing it with the one for eCS-Apps. I have
some overdue work to do on updating an old group, so I will look into
the role of Yahoo's 'SpamGuard' regarding these UCEs.

Hi

The best way to get rid of spam is to make joining the group moderated, and make all new members messages moderated
the after say the first or second VALID message, turn offff moderation, also then ban any members who send spam

This rout involves the least amount of work, or at least less than moderating all messages
