Subject: OS/2 and eComStation Developers
Workshop - Summary

Text: The OS/2 and eComStation Developers
Workshop 2005 was held on July 9th and
10th in Dresden, Germany.

A bit more than one week after the
workshop we have now updated the workshop
homepage with some information that
can be useful for developers that could not
attend.

1. You can download all presentations.
With the exception of the netlabs.org
presentation and the Mozilla presentation
you can download all presentations in a
PDF format from the workshop homepage:
http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Devel ... sentations
The Mozilla presentation needed to be canceled
last minute because of illness of the
presenter.

2. Posters available. We had two
posters presented at the Workshop. One about
WDSibyl, a visual pascal development
environment and one about the EDM/2 Tools
section. Both are now available for
download from the workshop homepage:
http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Devel ... 05#Posters

3. Photos! We have published a ZIP file
that contains a selection of photos from the
workshop. You can find a link to the ZIP
file at the very end of the Gallery section
on the homepage:
http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Devel ... 05#Gallery

4. Feedback from the attendees. We wanted
to find out whether the event was a
success and worth repeating next year. To
do that, we handed out feedback forms at
the end of the Workshop. Almost all attendees
completed the form and you can now see
the results online:
http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Devel ... 5#Feedback

A large majority of the attending
developers told us that they liked the
weekend and
enjoyed talking to other developers.
We are now thinking about repeating
the event
next year. Most likely, Adrian
Gschwend of netlabs.org will organize the next
Workshop.

Tom, I have signed this petition finally, after wringing my hands, etc.
over its English wording which should be improved before issuance to IBM.

Anyway, the count of signatures at 14:15 EDT, Wednesday July 7, 2005 is

...

drum roll

...

longer drum roll

...

"Petition Results The total number of registrants for this OS2 petition:
10146"

which is *magnificent*!

Thanks for signing. I hope there are more signatures (since the news has
gotten out on it) before it is sent.

Text:
"A number of OS/2 fans are urging IBM to release OS/2, or as much of it as
is legally possible, as open source software.

A petition on the OS/2 World website, which is signed by more than 8,800
people, states the petition to IBM is so the much-loved OS/2 technology
can be freely distributed and developed around the world. “We understand
that making OS/2 Open source will be beneficial for the IBM customers as
well as for IBM, if the hurdle of third-party supplied code can be
overcome. To this end we are willing to contribute our own efforts,” the
petition states...."

Lets tell him that we have OpenOffice, Mozilla, eComStation and that we
are not just "clinging to the past".

It is most probable that you would have to create a petition for this
purpose. Perhaps Yahoo! or Topica or some other service have this
option available for a nominal cost or even free. I doubt if OS/2 World
would be interested, unless such a petition was opposed only to the GPL
portion of the current one.

Dear Stepan,

Would you explain - why you think that OS/2 should not be in
Open Source status?
